SoTD: Mobb Deep “Shook Ones”

I haven’t posted a SoTD in the last couple of days.  I keep getting great inspirations for a song to post when I’m nowhere near pen or paper to write the idea down.  Then I sit down at my keyboard and can’t even remember what kind of music I like, never mind what song would make for a good post.  Nothing would come to mind in terms of what to use today, and I was going to forego tossing just anything up.  Out of nowhere, the beat and piano sample from Shook Ones broke loose in my memory and started rattling around in my brain case.

Here’s some quality East Coast hip hop from back in the day.  I was never really into the overproduced West Coast crap back when rap really mattered.  Dre, Snoop and Tupac had their merits, but they never appealed to me like the  East Coast spitters.  Wu-Tang, Nas, Mobb Deep, Tribe, EPMD, Das EFX; those were the groups that appealed to me.  It’s been a long time since I was in touch with hip hop.  The new breed just doesn’t do it for me, their shit is just empty and totally devoid of character.  I’d rather listen to four minutes of farting than weak ass L’il Wayne or his contemporaries.
